I was in grade 10 playing in a volleyball tournament when I felt my period suddenly show up. I ran over to my coach to say I had to go to the bathroom, but he told me to get back on the court.
I lost all focus, felt so much anxiety and couldn’t stop thinking about whether or not someone noticed. I never played volleyball again after that day.
I started my period quite late for my age, so I knew exactly what it was. I remember my friend was actually supposed to start hers soon (she already had her first one).
It was the weekend when I started and I was confused but sort of expecting it. I didn’t tell anyone, just bought the supplies myself. Not many people know to this day.
I was 13 years old. I woke up one morning not feeling well, but couldn’t really figure out why. I remember laying on the couch all day and eating popcorn because it was the only thing that sounded appetizing. The next morning, I got up and went to the bathroom to find that I had started my period.
I remember going to basketball practice later that day terrified my pad would somehow fall out on the court. It didn’t, but I went home and learned how to use tampons so I wouldn’t have to worry about that.
