I Got my Period for Christmas

I got my period the Christmas of 7th grade. I remember because it was when the majority of the girls in my age group got their periods and we all gossiped about who had “started”, but still felt embarrassed in the bathroom when we took off our pads and it made that terrible loud ripping sound, trying to hide it by flushing the toilet. 

Such a weird time in my life because you were judged if you hadn’t “started” yet, but you were also judged if you were changing your pad in the bathroom.

Happy Period, Pop-Pop!

I was 9 yrs old (YES 9 YEARS OLD) at a dance performance at the St. Augustine Pier...I felt something ‘weird’ in my tights! I was so calm, I just changed in the bathroom and brought the bloody evidence to my Mom and said, ‘I think I’m different now.’

It also happened to be my Pop-Pop’s (grandfather) bday! We ate at Quincy’s after and the entire time I felt like I had joined some secret club. Oh, what a memorable day.

The Fart That Went Too Far

It was the end of seventh grade and school had just ended. I went to the bathroom, looked at my underwear and thought I had sharted. I knew about periods but I thought it would look like blood that flows from a cut, which it did not.

I wadded up some toilet paper and spent the rest of the day wondering when the fart that went too far had been. It wasn’t until the next morning that I realized what it was.
