Ignore It And It Won't Go Away

It was five days before my 10th birthday. We were having friends over that day for pizza. I went to the bathroom in the early afternoon and saw blood in my underwear. I felt sick. I knew about periods but for some reason thought I wouldn't get one, at least not for a while.

I was so embarrassed that I just sat with it in my pants for most of the day, obsessively going to the bathroom a couple times an hour to make sure that the blood hadn't soaked through. I knew I had to talk to my mom. I eventually went into her bedroom and just pulled down my pants. She said, "oh you'll need a pad" and gave me this gigantic thing to put in my underwear.

First Period Anthem

On the day of my first period when I was in sixth grade I felt a little off during school due to what I later realized were cramps. On the drive home the song "Man! I Feel Like A Woman!" by Shania Twain played right as I pulled up to my house.

I had a hunch and immediately went to the bathroom to see what was going on and my underwear was red. It was an interesting coincidence.

Cruising Through Undies

I was innocently enjoying my first ever cruise. I woke up and thought that I had shit my pants, there was this weird brown stain all over of undies, I told my mum about the brown 'poo' stains and she went about her normal business.

It wasn't later (and a few more brown-stained undies) until I was on the toilet and saw ACTUAL BLOOD. I was so nervous to tell my mum. I told her and she told me to tell my sister, who had all the supplies. I first straight up refused, then after some convincing I told her.

She walked into my room and opened up her toiletry bag which had the supplies in it. Instead of handing it over, she showered me with pads, like a stripper being showered in money. It was so embarrassing for me, especially because it was my sister doing it and my mum was in the room. I cringe every time I think about it.

I then enjoyed the rest of my cruise, but unfortunately not being able to swim but I still made great memories with my family. Although the first period was not the greatest lead-up for my second. The first was light and short. The second was so heavy I couldn't walk and it went for a whole week!
